In a powerful display of community leadership, the Speaker of Lewisham, Councillor Jacq Paschoud, recently joined health advocates from the Africa Advocacy Foundation to champion the importance of blood pressure awareness. Dressed in her official robes at a local community event, Cllr Paschoud delivered a clear and urgent message: Getting your blood pressure checked could save your life.
High blood pressure is a leading cause of preventable strokes and heart disease. Yet, because it often has no symptoms, many residents remain unaware of their risk until a medical emergency occurs.
"Don't Wait for a Stroke"
Cllr Paschoud emphasized that a simple check-up is the most effective way to manage your health and prevent long-term complications.
"It's so important for everybody to take every opportunity to get their blood pressure checked. There are all sorts of places where you can do this around Lewisham, and it could be an absolute lifesaver. You don't want to think that you've had a stroke when you could have had treatment that reduced your risk." - Cllr Jacq Paschoud, Speaker of Lewisham
